Parent's Right to Know

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Elmore Park Middle School receives federal Title I funds to assist all students in meeting Tennessee’s academic standards. As a parent or guardian, you have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teachers and paraprofessionals, as well as information about state and district assessments administered during the school year.

Title I schools are required to meet federal regulations regarding teacher qualifications as outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These regulations are designed to ensure that families are informed about the educators serving their children.

At any time, you may request information regarding:

  • Whether your child's teacher meets Tennessee certification and licensure requirements for the grade level and subject being taught.
  • Whether the teacher is teaching under an emergency or temporary certification in which state qualifications have been waived.
  • The teacher’s undergraduate and graduate degrees, including the field(s) of study or areas of concentration.
  • Whether your child receives instructional support from a paraprofessional and, if so, the qualifications of that individual.

In addition, ESSA provides parents the right to receive information regarding:

School policies concerning student participation in required assessments and procedures for opting out, when applicable.

Information about state and district assessments, including:

  • The subject areas being assessed
  • The purpose of each assessment
  • The source of the assessment requirement (if applicable)
  • The approximate amount of time students spend completing the assessment
  • When and how assessment results will be shared with families

This information may be obtained by contacting school administration.
At Elmore Park, we strive to create a school community where every student is empowered to pursue and achieve their highest potential. We appreciate your partnership as we continue to push our students toward Eagle Excellence.
