Elmore Park Middle School

Kathy Mason » Welcome

A native Memphian, Kathy Mason grew up in Frayser and graduated from Westside High School.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Memphis, acquired her Master’s in Education from Union University, and received her +45 from various places, including the University of Memphis.  Kathy previously taught at Woodstock Middle, Bartlett Elementary, and Appling Middle Schools.  Often called upon to assist with computer problems at work, she especially enjoys learning about and using new technology in her teaching and is so excited to be able to bring these skills to Elmore Park Middle School!

Kathy has been married to Lesley Mason for seven years.  They have three dogs that are almost like their children:  Zack, Fraggle, and Ditch.  Kathy has been an active member of Lucy Baptist Church for about twenty years, playing her flute in the orchestra, and helping with various children’s ministry activities, including serving as a Vacation Bible School leader each year.  Her parents live just around the corner, so she and Lesley spend a lot of time with them.

Fun Facts about Mrs. Mason:

  • In sixth grade she was awarded “Sear’s Charm School Girl of the Month”. This allowed her to enroll and compete in the Miss Tennessee Beauty Pageant.
  • When Kathy was 18 years old, she was thrown out of a couple of airplanes as she learned to sky dive.
  • While taking part in a criminal justice class, she and her class visited Parchman Prison in Mississippi. Always willing to try something new, Kathy volunteered to be strapped down in the gas chamber.  The prison employees started explaining how it worked and then stepped out and locked the door.  They didn’t turn it on though!
