Interested in Band? Info For Future 6th Graders

Want to hear more about the Elmore Park Band?  Click the link above to watch a video for our future sixth graders.

No experience is necessary for band.  We will teach you how to assemble the instrument and play.

Students will be introduced to all of the instrument choices for band this year.  Students will select their top three choices of instruments that they are willing to play.  Instruments will be assigned to balance instrumentation in class.  Information will be sent home with the students in the future about their instrument assignment and how to rent an instrument.  We are looking forward to a great year in band because it provides many wonderful opportunities!

Band Information for Future Sixth Graders:

  • No previous music experience is required to play a band instrument.
  • Be sure to select Band on the Fine Arts link when you receive the email.
  • Many of our band students also participate in sports and other school activities.
  • Playing an instrument is a fun activity that encourages good hand-eye coordination and daily practice. Students will be reading music while they enjoy playing as an individual and as a group.
  • Please read instrument descriptions and listen to band instrument examples online to help with your instrument choices:
    • Possible instrument selections include:
      • Flute (woodwind instrument)
      • Oboe (woodwind / double reed instrument)
      • Bassoon (woodwind / double reed instrument)
      • Clarinet (woodwind instrument)
      • Saxophone (woodwind instrument)
      • French Horn  (brass instrument)
      • Trumpet  (brass instrument)
      • Trombone (brass instrument)
      • Baritone or Euphonium (brass instrument)
      • Tuba (brass instrument)
      • Percussion (Students start on bells first before learning snare drum.)
  • You can also click on the pdf link below to find additional information about the instruments to help in your three choices to play an instrument.
  • Band students will need to rent an instrument from an area music store based on their instrument assignment. Larger instruments are possibly furnished by the school.  Money should not prevent a student from participating in the band program.  The director will work with parents or guardians as needed so that students may enjoy learning to play an instrument.

We hope that you will join band at Elmore Park Middle School.
